In 1894, Friedrich first synthesized unsaturated polyester using ethylene glycol and maleic acid.

The book on unsaturated polyester states that after its discovery around 1937, it was found that the copolymerization rate of unsaturated polyester and unsaturated monomers was thirty times faster than the self polymerization rate of unsaturated polyester itself. The significant discovery of the rapid crosslinking reaction between unsaturated polyester and monomers led to the widespread application of unsaturated polyester resins since 1941.

After the start of World War II, the development of the polyester resin industry was promoted due to military needs, especially polyester fiberglass, which developed rapidly due to its strength, convenient processing and molding. After the war, due to the development of room temperature curing agents, the growth rate of the polyester fiberglass industry far exceeded that of other plastic industries.

The raw materials used in the initial production of polyester resin were diethylene glycol, maleic anhydride, and styrene monomers. In 1947, when preparing unsaturated polyester, Mackay hair loss was achieved by adding lily dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, which can reduce the crystallization tendency of the resin, improve its compatibility with unsaturated monomer styrene, and also increase the rigidity of the cured product.

The work of predecessors laid the foundation for today's polyester resin industry, and in the 1940s and 1950s, countries around the world began industrial production one after another. Several important countries that produce polyester resin have had significant production volumes over the years.

China's polyester resin industry was born in 1958 and has begun to take shape.
